The bulk of our work is providing advice to people who want our help and expertise in choosing the most appropriate financial product for their particular needs. However, there is a small group of people who, for one reason or another, don't need or want advice in choosing a financial product. This group includes people working (or who have worked) in the financial services industry and/or people who have acquired a lot of knowledge about financial products.
If someone doesn't need our advice in choosing a product, then our work is significantly reduced. We don't need to gather information about the person's financial circumstances. We don't need to assess the person's risk profile. We don't need to recommend a specific product, nor detail why we are recommending it above others. We don't need to explain about the differences between funds, the pros and cons of particular fund types, about eligibility for tax relief, options at retirement (for pension products) etc.
A transaction where the client doesn't require any advice whatsoever is known as an Execution Only transaction. As our work is significantly reduced, we pass on savings in terms of lower commission and consequently lower product charges.
